The Waiting Game

I have walked through countless roads, only to find myself in a dead end. But then I start over. I choose a different path. Most of the time I thought I was sure of where I was heading until I find I am lost again. However I could not say that those journeys were empty but rather full of experiences. Some beautiful, some painful, while some were both. In them, I've laughed a million laughs and I've cried a sea of tears. But I never said I'm done with all that. I know I have to take detours some more.

I cry because I am in pain. I am in pain because I thought I knew where I was going, but alas, I am lost again and I have to slow down, not stop since I don't have the luxury to do that. I am not that free to stay at a standstill.

I thought of options. Sadly, all of them will happen only if I wait it out. In the current state that I am, I can't afford quick fixes. They can't fix things, albeit, they can be more destructive. I can't destroy myself. The best thing to do now is wait. After all, waiting doesn't stop journeys, it will just slow them down.

My journey ends until I say it does.

This morning I asked les bebes de vampire to help me make pancakes. Vampire Prince hurriedly went to the kitchen and asked me if he could whisk the eggs. I told him I'll let him do everything. From beating the eggs to cooking the pancakes. I taught him some pointers and just watched him work.

Vampire Prince really did well for a first-timer. He certainly has talent. He even gave Vampire Princess some pointers on how to cook the pancakes. ^_^

Hair! Hair! Hair!

I want it NOW!

The last time I did something bold with my hair was four years ago when I had my long locks cut really, really short (read:boy-cut short). The hairdresser asked a million times if I was sure and all the time I answered "Yes!" with conviction so he chopped away.

Now though, I have a new hairdresser and he's much more stubborn than me. He REFUSED to chop my hair off so I'm stuck with this crown. I'm guessing though I could sway him into dying my hair red.

BUT that would have to wait because I was told that I wouldn't be allowed entry to school if I dyed my hair red, and NO, my hundreds of hats and caps wouldn't help because they ask me to remove it when I enter the school gates.

WHY does it have to be this way when I'm sooooooo sad now?! T_T

Today was Vampire Princess' first communion. I had to fight back tears from falling while I was watching her. I get so emotional when it comes to Les Bebes de Vampire firsts. I feel that they grow up too fast.

Today is also the last day of my meds. I'm still not feeling well though. My head hurts like hell. I just won't get better and it sucks. I'll try to feel better tomorrow though.

I'm so sad today.

Day 7: School for les bebes de vampire was cancelled due to bad weather, which was kind of a good thing since I wasn’t feeling well (read: headache and nausea). I still eat very little. Also I still wasn’t in the mood to go out but I had to thwart my moodiness because tomorrow it’s Vampire Princess’ first communion and we have to get a pair of white shoes. I was finally able to get her Florsheims this time, it was on sale.

My, how time flies. My baby girl is getting bigger and bigger. Damn, I'm getting older.

Speaking of Florsheim. *Nostalgia kicks in.* I remember my shoes when I was young, like elementary school young. My mom used to get me Florsheims and my aunt gave me a pair of Gregg Shoes. My Dr. Martens affair started when I was in high school. My dad got me a pair when I was a freshman and after two years a second pair (yeah, they're pretty sturdy I tell you). I miss my Dr. Martens. They were the comfiest school shoes ever as with Florsheim and Gregg Shoes.

Man, I never knew I wore cool shoes like that.

P.S. I heard Dr. Martens is opening a branch in Manila(?). I wonder if I can afford them nao. Gahhhh.

Day 6 is randomness. Be warned of too many "buts."

I was hoping I could change the mood today. I've been sitting in the same place since yesterday and hauling my butt out of the chair seems to be a feat. I'm very unproductive since Sunday. All I did was mope around cyberspace and the house. Coffee, my laptop, and bananas were my bestfriends since then. I get so hungry but I eat very little because any food I put in my mouth don't taste good. I've been "force-feeding" myself. It's stupid I know, but I guess I'm just taking a break. Plus the meds I'm taking are probably the ones to blame.

I read pretty cool stuff though, like:

Former Ivory Coast faces the International Criminal Court for charges of crimes against humanity. I dreamt of working at the ICC and it's probably one of the reasons why I wanted to become a lawyer. ICC kick ass y'know. My dad used to tell me that.
NASA found a new planet. YEah, WE ARE MIGHTY. But I'm guessing some extra terrestrial out there is thinking, "These earthlings, sheesh."
UNICEF Internship Programme. Even getting an internship at UNICEF is hard more so a job there. Although I was already given a heads-up, I still feel I'm not ready and way unqualified for it. IF ever I apply, I want to make sure that all things are in the right places and that I should be able to speak French fluently and be able to understand one other language.

She goes back to sleep. I get out of bed and run through what needs to be done today. If this goes on, there will never be a lazy day for me, ever.

A little conversation I had with the manicurist this afternoon.

Me: I'm lost.

Manicurist: Why?

Me: I figured I work so hard these past few weeks so I want to get myself something before I get a year older.

Manicurist: What do you want?

Me: Idk. A pair of shoes perhaps?

Manicurist: You get a new pair or two every couple of months.

Me: Do I?

Manicurist: You really don't need to get so worked up. You can always get shoes whenever you can and please.

Then I realized I'm being too shallow again. After that little talk I forgot I was wanting something so bad. I remembered my dad telling me over lunch that he could go to Boracay on the 8th but he's having second thoughts because he didn't want to miss my birthday, albeit he really didn't say the exact words but it was implied. Even my mom told me so. And then I was like, why do I fret so much? After all, the best things in life are free. :)

It still wouldn't hurt to have this though...

No, not Anne Curtis! I'm talking about the oxfords. The color and the patent leather reminds me of the shoes I saw at the VS Fashion Show 2011 last night minus the heels. This is just way more wearable than the actual ones they used on the runway. Thinking about whether or not I scour SM Naga for these babies. I hear they carry the brand at their stores. ^^

I was able to check out this new posh hotel in the city. In case you didn't know, it's called The Oriental Legazpi. The lobby and the coffee shop looked immaculate and it doesn't hurt that it has an amazing view of the majestic Mayon Volcano and the city (cam whores would have a grand time taking pictures of themselves there). The rooms, hopefully I can check out next week for an upcoming conference our office cooked up. I heard it costs an arm, to be able to sleep in one of its rooms.

I wanted to see if I could afford to bring les bebes de vampire there to dine but I wasn't able to see the menu because we (Papa, Mama, Tito Phil and I) were so full because we just ate at a local restaurant. We had coffee instead. Brewed coffee is Php 80 per standard sized cup, almost priced the same on gourmet coffee shops and other hotels I've been to. There was nothing special about the coffee but I would be inclined to spend for the relaxing view.

Too bad it was drizzling but other than that, tambay was perfect.

As she's getting older, I reckon she asks about big words more often.

To keep her from asking me in the future, I taught her how to use dictionary.com because she said sometimes she's too lazy to check out the paperback dictionary we have.

I was thinking, it would be dangerous if time comes I couldn't answer all her questions anymore.

She'd think less of me.

I'd have to review my vocab, just in case.

Open Gate

Last night, I went home and found our gate open. There were notions. Gaaaaahhhhhhh! It's hard to explain so I'll just write it down.

Notion #1. I was drunk last night.

Yes, I went to a party and yes, I drink alcohol. However, last night I didn't and ever since my dad let me and my brother borrow his car whenever we go out, we didn't want to abuse his kindness and do something stupid like drinking and driving. You might say it's cliche but believe me, we DON'T want our dad to get mad at us. And even if I did drink, I will not allow myself to be too intoxicated to NOT distinguish a closed gate from an open one. Ever.

Notion #2. I made the story up to avoid getting scolded because I went home really late and that I asked my brother to go up the wall and open the gate so I could get in. *I seriously find this notion a little too much*

Seriously, why would a grown-ass woman do that?! And what could I possibly gain from lying about a serious matter such as this?! Hell, I couldn't even sleep after the incident because I was too afraid that something bad might happen to us.

Poor brother, he didn't even know there was such an issue.

This is painful (almost brought me to tears). I know what I saw and I wasn't the only one there! Well, here's MY THEORY (Notions and Theories DO NOT mean the same): Someone (I don't know who yet but will NOT point fingers) forgot to lock the damn gate and just watching me take the blame. As always. I will pray for you.

Setting crass things aside, I feared for my children who were already sleeping. I feared for their safety. I feared that something bad happened to them. I feared so much.

I wouldn't want this to happen again so I will be taking drastic measures. Charge to experience.

All this time I thought Vandals were long gone, or at least the real ones. A little fyi on what I’m talking about.

If westerners celebrate October 31st Halloween, we Filipinos have November 1st and 2nd Undas. Christians also call it All Saints and All Souls days respectively.

This is how we roll in the Philippines!

You know it's Undas soon when all you see on TV especially ABS-CBN and GMA current affairs programs are scary aswang, ghost and other monster stories. Childhood favorite is Kabayan's Magandang Gabi Bayan.

You know it's Undas when your evil aunts and uncles scare the crap out of you with their crazy cemetery stories.

You know it's Undas soon when flower prices skyrocket.

You know it's Undas when you see candles for sale on places where you don't usually find candles. e.g. a bookstore.

You know it's Undas when sari-sari stores, even fast food chain booths burgeon out of nowhere along the street near the cemetery.

You know it's Undas when you see balls of wax made out of the already melted candles.

You know it's Undas when you see heaps of people, Exodus style going to and fro the cemetery

You know it's Undas when even you can't find a parking space even when you're three blocks away from the cemetery.

The October 31st That Was

Halloween greetings, photos and party invites sprouting sporadically on social media sites. My Facebook and Twitter walls were flooded with Halloween posts. I have no problem with that except that I am in the Philippines and Filipinos don't celebrate Halloween.

I am a hypocrite.

Last October 30th, I dressed up as Ice Queen. I have to say though, I dressed up not for Halloween, but because it was my nephew's birthday and it was a costume party. Then again, change is inevitable. If Filipinos want to celebrate Halloween like westerners do, then so be it.

Sad. Melancholic. Fatigued. Down. Out. Loathing. Frustrated. Disappointed. Scorned.

Friday was crap that I couldn’t bring myself to write about it. Anyway, I went out that night. I asked my brother and my friend to come with me even if I knew that they would find it unlikely for me to ask them to bring me to a “not-so-quiet” place. So I made up excuses like for a change of pace, that I wanted to hear Louie sing again and other crap like that (I think they bought it). I wanted to loosen up a bit then, just short of becoming a loose cannon to shake off the negativity but I found myself sitting quietly and observing people while ingesting a hefty sum of alcohol into my system amidst that chaos of a bar instead. *Running sentence alert*

Happy thoughts. Happy thoughts. Happy thoughts. I told myself over and over while at the same time imploring for divine intervention, and it did help lessen the not-so-good feeling (I TRY not to use profanity anymore). Plus the fact that Peach and Yanz did manage to pull genuine laughs out of me and that Louie was kind enough to grant our requests. It was also Louie’s birthday so our pulutan were free. Salamat sa carbonara, sweet and sour fish, cordon bleu(?), Bagsakan, Enter the Sandman and Down with the Sickness.

I was having a good time until I realized that I promised to jog with Mommy at 5:30 the following morning. It was already waaaay past midnight so technically, I had very few hours of sleep again. Good thing I heard the alarm when it went off. The exercise went well although I had to fight the urge not to fall asleep while exercising (I figured it was possible) and to throw up from exhaustion(?). I had to sleep off almost the whole afternoon to prevent my head from exploding. The afternoon nap was initially unintentional, I dozed off watching TV. I awoke from Les bebes de vampires’ calling me out at 3:33pm and then I was too sleepy to stand up so I decided against it and slept until I felt I already had enough sleep instead.

Saturday night was more laid-back. I just hung out with Les Bebes de Vampire and my dad at a local coffee shop. I ate plenty of tuyo for lunch and supper that day. And watched movies. And wallowed in despair.

Sunday too, I started the day early. 5:30ish. Jogged with the family again. Wanted to go to Sto. Domingo to meet airsoft buds, unfortunately, the car broke down and I was too lazy to commute so I stayed home instead (just when I was being okay to hang with other people, when I’m usually not.) Went to church. Slept. Played SIMS 3. Watched the evening news but it made me sadder because I’m not a superhero and couldn’t save the flood victims so I watched movies. Just mundane stuff.

Still bitching (I couldn’t help it) about last Friday. But of course, there are more important things to do and my problem is but a speck in the world so Imma try to save what sanity and pride I have left.

P.S. I am to write my next post on my take on what happened in Northern Luzon disaster because it was just too depressing to watch. Poor people, the children especially.

Just came back from another speaking engagement. It's always a joy to share knowledge to other people especially the youth. I love speaking in front of young people. It's always a challenge to keep them all ears and to make complicated topics uncomplicated and simple for them to understand.

In return they gave me these to show they are gratified. Additions to my collection of tokens from past engagements.

Never mind the slight grammatical error. I'm just happy they spelled my name right. Most of the time, people have to reprint the certificates of commendation or appreciation (even if I say it's fine with me).

Now I have sore throat and my voice is a bit hoarse, not that I'm complaining. Just that I went to a different speaking engagement yesterday because my boss couldn't make it, was very tired and lacked sleep.

September 12, 2011I was visited by an old Asian friend who lived here 10 years ago. I was floored by his observation that though we have lots of talented people, as a whole, we continue to be shallow.

Recently, I was seated beside former Senator Letty Shahani, PhD in Comparative Literature from the Sorbonne, watching a medley of Asian dances. The stately and classical Japanese number with stylized movements which perhaps took years to master elicited what seemed to me grudging applause. Then, the Filipino tinikling which any one can learn in 10 minutes; after all that energetic jumping, an almost standing ovation. Letty turned to me and asked, “Why are we so shallow?”

Yes, indeed, and for how long?

This is a question which I have asked myself, which I hope all of us should ask ourselves every so often. Once we have answered it, then we will move on to a more elevated sensibility. And with this sensibility, we will then be able to deny the highest positions in government to those nincompoops who have nothing going for them except popularity, what an irresponsible and equally shallow media had created. As my foreign friend said, there is nothing to read in our major papers.

Again, why are we shallow?

There are so many reasons. One lies in our educational system which has diminished not just scholarship but excellence. There is less emphasis now on the humanities, in the study of the classics which enables us to have a broader grasp of our past and the philosophies of this past. I envy those Hindus and Buddhists who have in their religion philosophy and ancestor worship which build in the believer a continuity with the past, and that most important ingredient in the building of a nation — memory.

Sure, our Christian faith, too, has a philosophical tradition, particularly if we connect it to the ancient Greeks and Romans. Remember, the first Bible was in Greek. But Greek, Latin and the classics in these languages are no longer taught in our schools the way these are still studied in many universities in Europe.

We are shallow because we are mayabang, ego driven, and do not have the humility to understand that we are only human, much too human to mistake knowledge for wisdom. We can see this yabang in some of our public commentators, particularly on TV — the know-it-alls who think that because they have so much knowledge — available now on the Web at the click of a button — they can answer every question posed to them. What they do not realize is that knowledge is not wisdom. Until they recognize that important if sometimes awful difference, they will continue to bluster their way to the top at our expense because we, the people, will then have to suffer their arrogance and ignorance.

We are shallow because with this arrogance, we accept positions far beyond our competence. Because there is no critical tradition in this country — a tradition which will easily separate the chaff from the grain, we cannot recognize fakery from the real goods. That outstanding scholar, Wilfredo Villacorta, is a rare bird indeed; when offered a high position in government, he refused it because he knew he was not qualified for the job. Any other mayabang academic would have grabbed it although he knows he can’t handle it. And so it happens always — the nitwits who hold such high positions stubbornly hold on to their posts, bamboozling their subordinates who may be brighter than them for that is the only way those who are inferior feel they can have respect.

On the other hand, the intelligent person will be aware of his shortcomings. He does not hesitate to ask the opinion of those who know more than him on particular subjects. If he is a government hierarch, he will surround himself with advisers who he knows can supply him with guidance and background possessing as they do more knowledge, experience and wisdom than him. Such an official is bound to commit fewer mistakes because he knows himself.

We are shallow because we lack this most important knowledge — who we are and the limits to what we can do.

We also lack the perception, and the courage, for instance, to deny these religious quacks and the thousands who listen and believe in them. Sure, religion is the opium of the masses as Marx said. So then, how can we prevent the masa from taking this poison without recognizing their right to make fools of themselves? Again, shallowness because the good people are silent. Ubi boni tacent, malum prosperat. Where good men are silent, evil prospers.This shallowness is the impediment to prosperity, to justice, and men of goodwill should emphasize this, take risks even in doing so. As the late Salvador P. Lopez said, “It is better to be silenced than to be silent.”

We are shallow because our media are so horribly shallow. Every morning, I peruse the papers and there is so little to read in them. It is the same with radio — all that noise, that artifice.

I turn on the TV on prime time and what do I get? Five juvenile commentators gushing over the amors of movie stars, who is shacking up with whom. One of the blabbering panelists I distinctly remember was caught cheating some years back at some movie award. How could she still be on TV after that moral destruct? And the telenovelas, how utterly asinine, bizarre, foolish, insipid moronic and mephitic they are! And there are so many talented writers in our vernaculars and in English as the Palanca Awards show every year — why aren’t they harnessed for TV? Those TV moguls have a stock answer — the ratings of these shows are very high. Popularity not quality is their final arbiter. They give our people garbage and they are now giving it back to all of us in kind! So I must not be blamed if, most of the time, I turn on BBC. Aljazeera, rather than the local TV channels. It is such a pleasure to read The New York Times, the San Jose Mercury News, the Washington Post, to listen to “Fresh Air” on US public radio and public TV where my ever-continuing thirst for knowledge (and good entertainment) is quenched.

We are shallow because we don’t read. I go to the hospital on occasion — the long corridor is filled with people staring into the cosmos. It is only I who have brought a book or a magazine. In Japanese cities, in Korea — in the buses and trains, young and old are reading, or if they are not holding books and magazines, they are glued to their iPhones where so much information is now available.In these countries and in Western cities, the bookshops are still full, but not so much anymore because the new communications technologies are now available to their masa. How I wish my tiny bookshop or any Filipino bookshop for that matter would be filled with people. I’ll make an exception here: BookSale branches are always full because their books are very cheap. But I would still ask: what kind of books do Filipinos buy?

We are shallow because we have become enslaved by gross materialism, the glitter of gold and its equivalents, for which reason we think that only the material goods of this earth can satisfy us and we must therefore grab as much as can while we are able. Enjoy all these baubles that we have accumulated; sure, it is pleasurable to possess such artifacts that make living trouble free. And that old anodyne: “Man does not live by bread alone,” who are the thinking and stubborn few who believe in it?

Mon Dieu! Has it been five days?! This long weekend was quite a grand time. I spent most of these days under the sheets. I never thought I could use so much sleep. It broke my routine. Also, I was able to finish Boardwalk Empire and I want more! Too bad, there's still no season 2 to squander my precious time on. It's a relief though, to get out of my bed. I was kind of worried that I'd become too lethargic to socialize again.

Anyway, I've got to catch up on important matters, i.e. my life? Oh and my health? Been kind of sick lately. Damn allergies.

This is gonna be quite a lengthy post. :)

The classic white shirt. I need a new white shirt, as reminded by my boss' mom's funeral yesterday. Unfortunately for me though, decent white shirts are hard to come by in this part of the country. Finding one here is quite an adventure.
Nars concealer. This is to conceal them dark circles on sleepless work nights. October is fast approaching, making it an urgency of the need to procure one.

Gladiator sandals. I went crazy over "Spartacus", hence the desire for a new pair. Albeit, I'm still a closed-shoe person.

Sneakers. This pair makes me drool.

Cambridge Satchel. I rarely set my eyes on bags, this one though tickles my fancy. It reminds me of European universities.
The North Face Isabella. I've always wanted a North Face backpack. The name of this backpack makes me want it more.

Manchester United jersey 2012. I also want one for each of les bebes de vampire.

Running shorts. Oh, I put them to good use alright.

Apple iTouch 4G. I never really cared much for these. Until my brother bought one. His has tons of games to pass time with on boring days, if ever it comes, that is.

Apple iPod Shuffle. My brother had one that I can borrow when I'm out burning body fat, but he lost it (read:it got stolen).

Sony Cybershot J10. It has a built-in USB arm. Enough said.
Pearl earrings. Just one pair.
Diamond bangles. Saliva drips from my mouth.
This is probably the effect of missing my babies so much.

Retractable nightstck. For skull bashing, if there need be. Plus, it reminds me of a Jedi's light saber. XD

Game of Thrones and Boardwalk Empire. I'm a sucker for period pieces (EXCEPT for Pearl Harbor).

For the moment, I salivate by the sight of these. It is unfortunate though that some of the things in this list costs an arm and a leg.

Holy Week

This holy week, I plan to teach my kids my definition of the Lenten season. They probably already have an idea since our family owns several santos that are being processioned every Holy Friday. However, they do not know what holy week means to me. I think Les Bebes de Vampire are now old enough to understand.

Now I'm not the most religious person you'll ever meet, but I take the holy week seriously. I want my kids to learn that this time.

Have you heard of Mad Men?

I've always been a sucker for films or series that are set in the past, 50's, 60's, 70's-ish. Probably because I like going back through time. The people then seemed crazy but in a perfect way. I don't know. I liked how people looked back then, clean. The men would smell musky and the women would smell floral. Plus the designs of the furniture and buildings, Oh! Also, beer wasn't that popular back then, only hard liquor. How they talk seemed so refined. I've always liked that in people. Although when one of my friends would blurt out a crazy word, we would have a hell of a laugh. I prefer it that way. It seems that when a refined person talks, it seems he chooses the words carefully before saying it. You can say i'm old-fashioned.

P.S.

I have to say, It's Playoffs once again. I love it. Yesterday's game I wasn't able to rave about but I couldn't get Ray Allen's winning shot off my head. Although I felt a little bad for Amare. I must say, he just keeps getting better and better! Today it's the Bulls. I think Michael Jordan, Scotty Pippen, and Phil Jackson would be proud!

Thesis Chronicles Part 2

I was trying my hardest not to lose it these past few weeks. As you know, I got pretty busy with my thesis. I was supposed to be finished two weeks ago but then my adviser was probably thinking that what I wrote was still crap, that he had me change some important parts including the title. I was about to give up and didn't touch the copy for two whole days. I just got so tired and frustrated about it. Good thing though that I pulled through and I'm just about done. I hope my adviser doesn't return the copy to me with a frown on his face. Anyway, it's out of my hands now. Albeit, I'm still not out of the chopping block. I will still be busy this week, especially that the dreaded departmental exams will happen on Wednesday.

Anyway, enough of the thesis stuff for now.

This afternoon, I finally got to relax. Even if it was just for a while, I felt liberated. I spent two glorious hours watching Nat Geo without my thoughts drifting back to school work. Oh, how I loved it. I don't care if three school books are still waiting for me when I get home later.

Had a motorcycle accident last night. My left knee got scraped and my left arm hurts big time, that I thought it's broken. Thankfully though it wasn't. The doctor said I'll be fine. Still I couldn't move my left arm that much 'coz the bone on my elbow kinda slipped. And, thankfully I had a helmet on. My scalp could've torn open if I hadn't worn one.

Thank God I'm okay! I'd still want one of these someday though.^^

Thesis Chronicles Part 1

I feel I've been away from cyberspace for too long. My poor blog looks lonely and deserted. This has got to stop so I decided on chronicling the development of my thesis as if I had all the time in the world. I thought posting a blog doesn't take more than a few minutes, right? Anyway, before I started working on my thesis, I kept telling myself this will be a no-brainer. All I needed was time. The problem was where to squeeze it in. I got my hands already pretty full.

I had no choice. I had to start working on it. It was either that or I get into trouble. The hard way is the easy way, so I've learned. I kind of did chapters 1 to 3 but as I reviewed all of it, I realized I had to redo chapter 1. I am more than determined to redo it 'coz the first one I did was horrendous. This morning I made a format of what I should do. Chapter 4 will be hard because I want it to be perfect.

At the beginning of my research, I decided to go digital to save money and to save on paper. However, I realized now that it was impossible to go paperless unless I was willing to let my eyes come out of its sockets. So there.

The dark circles around my bulging eyes and the countless pimples on my face are now mocking me.

Forlorn.

Today feels like Sunday. Not that it's a bad thing. =] I am thankful though for a long weekend. I spent Saturday and Sunday watching movies with Les Bebes de Vampire andtToday I made this...

Les Bebes de Vampire's favorite, Pork Sinigang sa Sampalok.

from these...

winged beans, white radishes, eggplants, swamp cabbage, ginger, tomatoes, onion, "ugob", and tamarind sans the pork (y'all know what pork looks like so I didn't include it in the photo.)

I sort of have a knack for cooking dishes from scratch (read:as little store-bought pre-made mixes as possible.) It's kinda boring, I think, if I don't cook it from scratch. Besides, I like trying things. It takes longer to prepare the ingredients though, but it's definitely worth it.

My Adobo Ceasar Salad

Papa brought home three varieties of lettuce from his Baguio trip. I have spare time because class is postponed (the teacher attended PICPA National Conference in Iloilo.) So what do you do if you have these? Make Ceasar Salad from scatch of course.

(And Mama kept bugging me to make it. Trust me, you wouldn't want someone like my mom to nag you.)

So here are the ingredients.

Croutons I made from left over pandesal.

prosciutto, joke. Ordinary bacon.

OC-clean lettuce. lettuce. lettuce. (romaine, iceberg, and crisphead choo choo).

Et voila! My Adobo Ceasar Salad!!! A fusion of Filipino and Italian cooking.

I know I could use more practice when it comes to plating. What do you think?

Les Bebes de Vampire Statements

Les Bebes de Vampire says the craziest things. This time, it's Vampire Princess.

Over breakfast...

VP: Mommy, you remind me of Jane Goodall.
Me: Who?
VP: Jane Goodall.

I was like, "Wait, she knows Jane Goodall, the Jane Goodall?!"

Then I heard her say something like "Jane Goodall is old." I was running late for work so I did not interject.I put a mental note to ask her why she said such over lunch. I just couldn't get it out of my head.

Update:

So I asked Vampire Princess...

Me: Why did you say I remind you of Jane Goodall?
VP: Nothing, she just popped into my head. And I wanted you to check her out on the Internet for me. All I know is she's old and that she has Chimps. I want to know more about her.
Me: Then why didn't you just ask me?
VP: I don't know Mommy. Stop asking me.

Night of Spooks

Tonight, I was planning to sleep late and when I say late, I mean 3am-ish late. Just finished stuffing myself with sinful junk food. Oh, how I love to binge eat lately. Well, it must be the weather. I even braved the rain and got my feet wet to get junk food. It's kinda unusual for me since I abhor getting my feet wet... Until I get hungry that is (Yes, I can be quite fastiduous about things). Anyway, I was doing this post and channel surfing then stop and watch what catches my frenzy for a while then back to this post then channel surfing, at the same time. BTW, I was ecstatic to come across reruns of Ahhh! Real Monsters on Nickelodeon, one of the funniest cartoons evah, but got tired of watching it so I channel surfed again. You pretty much get the idea, right? Had to break the cycle so I decided to step out of the house and looked at the dark sky.

Then something weird happened.

Vampire princess was calling out to her Ate Cel. I told her to stop because Ate Cel was already asleep. But she insisted that she saw someone so I went upstairs to ask Cel. I asked her if she went downstairs and she said no. I thought it was weird because Vampire Princess said she wasn't making up stories. Cel turned the light switch on but the bulb didn't light up. As we were going on with the conversation, the light turned on. We were so startled we ran down the stairs. But then I thought there's something wrong with the light switch. So I dismissed the spooky thoughts and went about watching TV and stay up late as planned earlier. But what was planned earlier didn't happen 'coz I thought I saw someone go down the stairs when I know that all the people in the house were already in their respective rooms. This is not news though because it has happened to me several times before. Albeit I have to say, I still got scared.
